SMITE 2 - The Next Generation of SMITE

This year we celebrated not only 10 years of SMITE, but we celebrated a decade of incredible achievements. 10 years of innovation, 10 years of growth and change, 10 years of epic showdowns on the Battleground, but most importantly? 10 years of fun with a Community that has been with us through everything. The Community has been with us through 10 years of highs and lows and is the reason we continue to create new and amazing content for SMITE. Your support fuels our passion and has helped us grow SMITE further than anybody could have imagined, and we aren’t done yet. Starting now, we are working towards one of our biggest milestones in the past decade; SMITE 2.

SMITE 2

SMITE 2 is the next step in SMITE’s journey, and was designed with one goal in mind: “To recreate the SMITE that people love, except better in every single way.” The Titan Forge Team has worked tirelessly to take the core of SMITE, the magic that made us all fall in love with the game, and give it a complete upgrade. The game is still in development, but we are excited to showcase our work so far.

WHAT’S CHANGING

SMITE 2 has too many changes to highlight in one blog, so we are just going to touch on some of the bigger ones here.

Upgrading the Game Engine

SMITE was originally designed on Unreal Engine 3 (UE3) back in the early 2010’s and has stayed on that platform. While it has worked well for us, 10 years is a long time and our work thus far in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) has shown us just how exciting the future of SMITE can be. The time our team has spent with UE5 has already resulted in the creation of some incredible new possibilities and we are only just scratching the surface. The sky is no longer the limit and the future of SMITE is shining bright.

Graphics & Gameplay

As you may have noticed, SMITE 2 has been dramatically improved graphically, but these aren’t the only upgrades. SMITE 2 has been rebuilt from the ground up with refined gameplay mechanics (movement, abilities, everything!), new audio design, new VFX, etc. We took everything from SMITE that people loved and upgraded it for SMITE 2. This also includes a completely redesigned Item Shop, and a redefining of what “roles” represent in SMITE. For starters, the Item Shop has been rebuilt to be easier to navigate and understand. With a new and more educational Auto-Build system, easier sorting methods, and a fresh coat of digital paint the SMITE 2 Item Shop is a major improvement. The last big change to the Item Shop is directly tied to our changes in God roles - No more item separation based on damage! Magical and Physical damage are long gone and have been replaced by Strength and Intelligence. This means that, regardless of which type of God you are playing, everybody is looking at the same item shop. This also means that you can hop into SMITE 2, lock Ymir, and build full crit… That is right, Facepunch Ymir is back!

And Much More!

These are two major points, but they only scratch the surface of what we have done to improve the SMITE experience. We will be releasing a ton of information about SMITE 2 over the next few months as we progress towards our Open Beta Playtests, so make sure you wishlist SMITE on your favorite platform and get ready to join in and help us get it just right.

So what now?

We still have some time before SMITE 2 is ready to be released to the Community, but you can start preparing for your SMITE 2 experience now!

Cross-Gen Content

For starters, every God skin in SMITE’s Year 11 will be “cross-gen” which means that you will own the skin in both SMITE and SMITE 2. This means that you can enjoy new content in SMITE, while building up a collection of skins for SMITE 2 that you can show off.

Become a Supporter!

The first thing you can do to start supporting SMITE 2 is wishlisting the game on your favorite platform, and signing up for alpha registration. We will need all the help we can get to test SMITE 2 at these critical stages, and the Community has always been great at helping us smoke out issues. You can also keep your eyes out for the release of the Founder’s Pack! This will be a buy-in version of the game to get you early access with bonus rewards, as well as the ability to play during the early alpha-testing weekends so that you can help provide the feedback that shapes SMITE 2 as it approaches its full launch in January of 2025.

Got more questions?

We understand, this is a huge deal and there are a LOT of questions. Make sure you check out our FAQ page for answers to some of the most common questions we have come across.

THANK YOU!

SMITE has a long and incredible history, and we owe it all to the Community. You have supported us and stuck around through nearly 11 years, and given hundreds of people a chance to work on a game that they truly love. We are able to do what we do because of this fantastic support, and we are truly thankful. SMITE 2 is more than just the next step for SMITE, it is a love letter to the people who have helped us make it this far. We are all excited to continue working with you while creating something truly fantastic. See you on the Battleground Deities!

INTRODUCING THE DIVINE LEGACY

SMITE 2 honors your divine legacy in SMITE with two all new systems: Divine Legacy and Legacy Gems. SMITE 2 is a true, standalone sequel, but it still rewards loyal SMITE players for their time, money, and accomplishments.

Legacy Gems

You will receive Legacy Gems in SMITE 2 equal to every single Gem you have ever spent in SMITE 1 – Free or Purchased. Your Legacy Gems can be used to pay for 50% of most in-game purchases in SMITE 2.

You will continue to earn Legacy Gems for every Gem spent in SMITE 1 throughout Year 11. And if you purchase any SMITE 2 Founder’s Pack, we’ll double your Legacy Gems, giving you the equivalent purchasing power to the Gems you spent in SMITE 1.

Legacy Skins

SMITE 1’s new Divine Legacy system will analyze your gameplay over the 11 years of SMITE. You’ll earn points for accomplishments tied to each year, and unlock up to 11 classic SMITE skins reimagined in Unreal Engine 5 for SMITE 2 – free. You can also claim a free Unlimited Tier 5 skin of your choice in SMITE 1! Look in-game in SMITE to learn more about your Divine Legacy.

Legacy Badges

Specific SMITE 1 achievements will be immortalized in SMITE 2 with a series of Legacy Badges. You’ll be able to show off that you were a SMITE 1 Beta Tester, that you own Archon Thanatos, or your exact Mastery Level and Star count on each God. And those are just three of the more than 65 Legacy Badges.
